Monarch Secret Runs PDF Print E-mail

There is a reason they are secrets. If I tell you, they will not be secrets any more ...

Okay, if you promise not to tell anyone else...

Except for your BFFs...

Head down Sleepy Hollow run, look on your left for a little hole in the deep trees, at the base of Turbo. This is called Pinball. Every 12 year-old knows about it and loves it, but most adults only try it once, then avoid it. This is because they do not really know how to ski it. Pinball is meant to be skied in a snowplow (or wedge). Pinball is an almost flat run, but is narrow, bumpy, with weird moguls, logs and lots of trees.  It is only about 100 yards long, but every foot is fun. Try it at least once.

You can try it on a snowboard, if you insist, but Pinball is not well suited for snowboard stylin'.

At the other end of the scale is Monarch's version of Vail's Back Bowls. Not huge and not scary, but with great snow, and almost no other skiers. Head up Breeze Way Lift, turn left, and skate a few hundred feet along the flat. Look left, then drop into Outback or Shagnasty. Both offer great open terrain with no obstacles and almost always virgin powder shots. They usually have a few cornices to hop off if you want, and even a narrow ravine that you can imagine is a chute.
