Driving to Monarch is easy on most days, check the current conditions webcams to make sure the Monarch Pass roads are friendly. If the roads are bad, drive partway up the pass to the Monarch Mountain Lodge in Garfield, go in to the restaurant, and have a cup of hot chocolate and a piece of pie. By the time you are done, the snowplows will be through and driving the rest of the way up Monarch Pass will be much easier and safer.
