If you are visiting for a week of skiing at Monarch, you might consider renting a vacation home. They are much more comfortable than a hotel room, and have plenty of space for you and the kids. A full kitchen will allow you to cook some meals at home, thus saving lots over eating in restaurants. A vacation home is an especially good idea if you have a non-skiing person in your group.
The best part about staying in Salida is the weather. It is normal that Salida is sunny and warm, even when Monarch has stormy, rowdy weather. Hard to believe, but it’s true. Salida is known as the “banana belt.” The mountains catch and hold the storms, which makes for great powder skiing, and leaves the valley sunny and warm. What a great place!
Another great thing about staying is Salida is the historic downtown area. This is one of the largest Historic Districts in Colorado and it is home to a wide variety of cute little shops, restaurants and parks. Look UP … many of the best architectural details are along the roof lines. Walking through the historic buildings of downtown Salida is a great way to stretch your tired ski legs and is fun even if you don’t want to shop. For shoppers – it is a charming experience. We know you will love the friendly shop keepers, they are our friends!
