There is no lodging AT Monarch Ski and Snowboard Area. Monarch is all about skiing, so it doesn't have any cute condos, crowded hotels or ugly trophy homes. It is a ski area, plain and simple, just like the good old days before real estate barons got into the ski business. The closest lodging to the ski area is in the hamlet of Garfield (also called Monarch), Colorado. This is a charming little town (emphasis on "little"), with mining shacks, quaint log cabins and wonderful homes all fitted into a convenient and nearby valley. It is a great place to stay, but doesn't have any restaurants, stores or other amenities, other than the small Monarch Mountain Lodge. If you want night life or to get out of snow, head on down to Salida. If you want to reduce driving hassles or stay in a real cabin in a snowy mountain setting, Garfield may be for you.
